How to maximise impact in your landscaping
Landscaping and
garden aesthetic can
have a significant
impact on the value
of your home.
At Dacland, we offer a Great
Garden Promise incentive to create
premium streetscapes where
the properties and their front
landscapes complement each other
and the overall community. Dacland
Urban Designer, Jacqueline Yuen
believes that a premium streetscape
will help increase the value of living
in Dacland communities.
“Dacland designs communities
that favour premium streetscapes
and promote well-landscaped front
yards that not only create a good
first impression, but will enhance
the lifestyles of those who live
there,” said Jacqueline.
“Streets that are shaded by
canopy trees and feature quality
nature strips will create a pleasant
walking environment and village
feel for each community. It
encourages residents to spend
more time in their front garden or
walking in the neighbourhood.”
To help you maximise impact
in your landscaping and create a
strong, appealing streetscape in
your community IBuildNew have
put together five smart tips that you
can include in your plans:
1. Geometry shapes the
overall harmony
When you start planning your new
landscaping project, make sure that
you keep the following in mind to
create a cohesive front yard that
works well with the house plan:
• Remember that the biggest
element on your lawn is the
house itself.
• Recognise the strength of good
proportions to create balance
without compromising the
individual elements that make
your property look enticing.
• Take advantage of shapes,
masses, spacing, and colours that
can complement the size and
appearance of your home.
• When expertly placed shrubs,
flowers, trees, yard decor, and
ornate pathways will highlight
the property’s beauty from
all angles.
2. Think of year-round beauty
Invest in perennial plants that
look good in all seasons and can
always provide a warm, inviting
atmosphere. It’s important to select
plants that will look good all year
round. You don’t want a garden that
only looks perfect when it’s spring
or summer, but looks foreboding,
neglected or haunted during
winter or autumn.
3. Welcome guests and occupants
with flawless transitions
Landscaping isn’t only about
visuals; it’s also about the feel.
The journey from the street to
your front door (and vice versa)
should be smooth and pleasant
for your front landscaping to give
a lasting impression. Be mindful
of the whole experience; think
of ways where you can switch up
the scenery without breaking the
flow of the walk. Make sure the
pathways provide a clear direction
so visitors and residents can always
see where to go.
4. Provide room for growth
If you have trees and perennials
in your garden, consider giving
them plenty of space to spread
when they grow larger and older,
or they will appear squeezed up
and overcrowded. Properly spacing
your plants also prevents them
from competing with each other for
food and nourishment, especially in
times of drought. Get to know your
plants by researching how wide and
how high they will become when
they mature. Don’t worry if at first
they look sparse, in time they will
fill their beds, giving your garden
a healthy, clean, and well cared-
for look. Depending on the plants,
the ideal spacing to ensure good
coverage and growth is 3 or 4 plants
per square metre.
5. Less is more: the power of
low maintenance
A yard that looks good doesn’t mean
it should be high maintenance.
There are plenty of pretty plants
that require less upkeep, which can
attract future tenants or potential
buyers. Even if you have a green
thumb and a passion for nature,
gardening is still a time consuming
and unrelenting task, and it can
become a huge chore. With all the
jobs associated with it, such as
weeding, trimming the grass, and
more, not everyone has the time or
budget to keep the garden spotless.
For better kerb appeal, take a more
realistic approach. Think of plants
that can take care of themselves
and suit the site conditions in your
community. This may include
Corymbia Ficifolia ‘Red Flowering
Gum’, and Acmena Smithii ‘Cherry
Surprise’.
Creating a beautiful front yard
for your new home is something
that is worth the effort and
extra cost.

Suresh and Laxmi are looking forward to sharing a community with their family and
friends in Wynbrook.
Wynbrook, convenience at its best
For Suresh and his
wife Laxmi, the
decision to purchase
land in Wynbrook
was easy.
“It made sense to purchase
in Wynbrook, housing is very
affordable and we really like the
local area. Everything we need is
within walking distance. We are
close to shops, schools and the local
train station,” said Suresh.
The couple are currently living
in Wyndham Vale with their two
children, Sampath, 9 and Vishtu,
5, who both attend the local
primary school.
“I work in the city and being
right next to the station will make it
a lot easier to get to work. We used
to live in Craigieburn, where houses
were less affordable and it was hard
to catch public transport," he said.
“Wynbrook is the perfect place
for my family to live, we are close to
everything we need. We are hoping
to build a four-bedroom home, but
will wait until settlement to finalise
our plans.”
Since purchasing at Wynbrook,
fourteen of Suresh and Laxmi’s
close family and friends have also
purchased land in the community.
“It’s exciting to have so many of
our family and friends close by! We
are looking forward to being part of
a community with them.”

everything we need.”
