Lochaven built upon a true legacy

As the land on which

Lochaven is built

transitions from its

farming heritage to a new

residential community,

Dacland is determined to

honour the lands previous

owners. Just one example

of this being the recent

incorporation of the

McNab family tartan into

the design of Lochaven’s

streetscapes and parks.

This week Dacland and Fleming’s

Landscapes progressed our

commitment to honouring the

McNab family legacy by planting

beautiful

Nyssa Sylvatica ‘Forum’

trees along Strathlea Drive. These

budding deciduous trees are

distinctly marked by their red

autumn colour. In the early months

of Autumn, when the leaves begin

to change their colour the red

and green will create a unique

tartan effect reminding Lochaven

residents of the McNab family,

who farmed the land for 100

years. Dacland General Manager

of Design, Jonathon Fetterplace

believes that these trees will

create a unique character for the

community.

“At Dacland we celebrate the

original land honouring the past

as we build for the future. Across

our communities, we listen to the

history of the land and work with

its natural features to create a

legacy for future generations,” said

Jonathon.

“We wanted to preserve the

stories that Laurie McNab and his

sister Val shared about their family

and growing up on the land, and

have chosen to honour the McNab

family’s legacy in our design. If

you drive past Lochaven on a cool

Autumn day you will see colours

of red and green lining the streets.

This will create a unique character

for the Lochaven community and

have a very special meaning to the

residents that live there, both in the

past and future.”

Lochaven has captured the

McNab’s rich family history and

stories throughout the community’s

identity and branding, which

features the colours of the McNab

family tartan. These colours

will now echo throughout the

community design aided by the

planting of the

Nyssa Sylvatica

trees that will help shade

residents and create a remarkable

neighbourhood that they can

call home. The street names and

landmarks at Lochaven have also

taken inspiration from the McNab’s

rich family history to create a legacy

for future generations.

In addition to honouring

Lochaven’s unique heritage,

attention to sustainability and

environmental protection have

also been at the forefront of

planning and delivery at Lochaven.

The UDIA Envirodevelopment

assessment scheme has reviewed

and awarded the community six

leaves for its initiatives to reduce

energy, water and waste, and

promote the preservation of natural

ecosystems, communities and

materials.

“The planning and

consideration underlining

Lochaven’s sophisticated design

helped it meet the UDIA rigorous

EnviroDevelopment criteria, this is

a community that has gone beyond

the minimum compliance standards

to further benefit the residents that

live there,” said Jonathon.

An easy lifestyle at Lochaven

Nayantha and his wife,

Minoli are looking

forward to downsizing

when they build

their new home at

Lochaven, close to

everything they

may need.

The couple who moved to Australia

in 2009, are currently living down

the road from the Lochaven

community. They spent 2 months

looking for a place to build their

new home, before finding the

perfect block at Lochaven.

“Lochaven is close to everything

we may need. There are parks,

schools, shopping and plenty of

places to visit on the weekends,”

said Nayantha.

Nayantha who runs a transport

business, and Minoli who works

as an accountant in the city are

delighted to be close to the freeway

making it easy to commute to and

from work each day.

“Having freeway access and rail

connection will offer us an easy

lifestyle, Minoli can easily commute

to and from work each day, and

it will make it simple to run my

transport business,” said Nayantha.

Since purchasing their home at

Lochaven, many of their family and

friends have also joined them in the

tight knit community. The couple,

are excited to raise their son Kevon,

8 months, close to their family and

friends.

“My uncle has purchased a

block, and is moving to live near

us from Canberra. We are looking

forward to having our friends and

family live nearby,” said Nayantha.

Whilst they are yet to decide

on a builder for their new home,

Nayantha plans to build a cosy

double-storey home with four

bedrooms.

“We have enjoyed the process so

far, the Lochaven sales team have

been very helpful. We are looking

forward to joining the Lochaven

community and meeting our future

neighbours.”
